Pantry Club
Our food is purchased from Foodbank in Sydney, supplementing local donations of bread and other goods.
Story
Pantry Club food relief program was born out of a desire to have a positive impact on our community and fill a need that was not being met. Food affordability has become an increasing problem within our Shire over recent years and Pantry Club was founded to try and address this growing issue.
Pantry Club has successfully operated within our Shire since June 2008 and has become a much respected and valued service within our community. It is essentially member focused and dignity based. Pantry Club was also established as more than just catering for the physical need for food, but as a place where members can have important social time with other members and volunteers and where their emotional and spiritual needs can also be met.
Pantry Club allows members to access food on a weekly basis (except during school holidays) and gives them the freedom to choose their own food items. Further, Pantry Club has a small cost involved offering members ‘a hand-up, not a hand-out’, maintaining dignity and respect in often trying circumstances.
Aim
The aim of Pantry Club is to provide members and those in genuine financial need with affordable food options to help them cope with the rising cost of living. To facilitate this, Pantry Club provides a range of quality manufactured foods, frozen and chilled goods, personal products, and fresh fruit, vegetables and bread (as available).
Hours of operation
Pantry Club is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays during normal school terms from 10am – 1pm. It is located in the SouthernLife community centre at 2837 Princes Highway, Moruya (next door to the Moruya TAFE) on the grounds of SouthernLife Church. Pantry Club is proudly sponsored by SouthernLife church. We are not for profit and non-Government funded.
